Equipment
As many already know I almost have 2 years studying and learning photography and I learn a lot in those 2 years some things that I would love to share especially if you are just beginning. I would love your feedback and if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I will also share some interesting details about this picture so I hope you will read to the end.
When I started I heard from a lot of professional photographers say that lenses are the most important part of your equipment. Which in my opinion is 100% the best advice you can give anyone starting photography for the first time. However, don’t do what I did I focus so much on the lenses that I ended up buying lenses that I really didn’t even need and now I just have them just tuck away some where. The most important thing when starting photography is knowing what photography you would like to do. I myself when I started I had an idea but was more interested in learning every style of photography and being the best I can be in every single style. As I started shooting landscapes I came to the realization that I love nature, wildlife, flowers, and plants. I do take pictures of what ever catches my attention and what ever I like. I do experiment with different angles and have more pictures that are just me having a vision and capturing a moment just to remember that park or just trying out new ways to elevate my pictures.
I started with a basic dslr camera a canon rebel T100. I didn’t see a problem not grabbing a more expensive camera because I wanted to buy better lenses for it. This in a way came to haunt me, the first year of my photography I struggled so much. That camera is good but there were a lot of downsides to it so many in fact that once I upgraded I never look back. The batteries didn’t last long in this camera especially if you were using the back screen. The screen was bad quality as well the picture I was seeing on the screen was not the picture I was getting when I would go edit. This camera nearly made me quit photography because of how frustrated I was with it. I thought what I was learning wasn’t sinking in and I thought it was me that was messing up.
However, once I upgraded my camera to the canon mark m50 I noticed a big difference right away. I highly recommend this cheap mirrorless camera. It’s perfect for video and for pictures an all around solid performing camera. I’ve enjoyed every moment I have captured with this camera. I also learned that I prefer mirrorless cameras over dslrs. Once I got the m50 I decided to actually invest in a lens that was going to help me capture those beautiful landscapes. I decided to buy a 24-70mm lens. And me being a newbie that I was I was so bumped to find out that my lens didn’t fit my mirrorless camera. This is why doing research about the equipment your buying comes in to play. Thankfully, I found a mount adapter for EF/EF-S lenses to EOS M. Knowing the type of mount your camera has is important. Mirrorless cameras have a different mount from dslr. Mirrorless cameras though allow for special mounts to be used so your dslr lenses work with it. However, I do not believe dslr have a mount that allow you to use mirrorless camera lenses.
I have been wanting to start taking more pictures of wildlife and unfortunately my 24-70mm lens while it’s a great lens I can only zoom in so far with it. That’s why knowing what you want to shoot is important because that way you buy the equipment you need and actually are going to use when shooting your subject. The 24-70mm is such a great lens highly recommend if you are interested in taking landscapes a 16-35mm would be great as well to get that great wide angle shot. I decided to get the 24-70mm because is kind of a well rounded lens is wide enough for great landscape photos and also get close up similar to a telephoto lens but obviously does’t go to far. I decided to invest in 100-400mm telephoto lens to shoot wildlife. I know that’s the route I want to go with my photography so I know this investment is going to pay off. I am also looking for a film camera because I love the unique look you can get from a film camera. This picture was taken with my 24-70mm lens.
Last week, I started doing research on birds and sightings around the area. I made a long list of parks with heavy bird activity and turkey run park in Mclean came up. This park can be found if you are driving by George Washington Memorial Pkwy. I honestly went to the park to see birds and explore around take some pictures. I had no idea this park had waterfalls even though two of the three were dry I found this beauty at the beginning of the trail. This park is gorgeous you walk along the potomac river the whole time. The stunning views and the wild life is a very peaceful environment. If you want to see those views go on my tik tok link on the top right or @capture_moment5. I took a gorgeous video of the waterfall and the views of the potomac river. Let me know what you think.
